Extension Tubes – An alternate for Macro Lens

MACRO EXTENSION TUBES

Macro extension tubes adds high magnification capabilities to virtually any camera lens. This can give a whole new range of subject matter to your existing camera equipment. However, it’s often unclear exactly how much magnification you’ll gain.

EXTENSION TUBES OVERVIEW

An extension tube is simply a hollow cylinder that fits in between your camera and lens, causing the lens to move further from the sensor. This additional distance allows your lens to focus more closely, which in turn provides more magnification capability. Unlike most lens accessories, extension tubes don’t add any extra optics, and are therefore relatively inexpensive, simple devices.

Inspiring Black and White Photos

Many of the most powerful, memorable and effective photographs are black and white images. With digital photography though, you can no longer take a great black and white photograph, … but you can create one.

Beautiful black and white photography doesn’t attract with its play of colors. Here close attention to composition, lighting, perspective and the context it is shot in are important.

Grey scale is not just the absence of color, or everything taken in shades of grey. To understand and master black and white photography with your digital you must understand the concept of grey scale. It is a spectrum of black, lots of grey and white, like the colours of a rainbow but in a series of black and white and grey tones. You see a black and white photo is not really only black and white; it is actually lots of different shades and different depths of grey. So when we talk about grey scale it just means the way we measure tones of grey. Included in the grey scale is of course black and white.

Here are a few examples to inspire you.

Make it noisy:

The sounds in the womb are very loud and some say as loud as a vacuum cleaner. Newborns will sleep much more soundly if there is white noise in the room. Use noise machines with rain noise or with the sound of the ocean. An app on iphone also provides static white noise.

Is a medium format camera right for you?

Is a medium format camera right for you?

Author: Richard Kilpatrick

We evaluate the pros and cons of the Leica S2 and Pentax 645D against those of the system approach taken by Hasselblad and Phase One, asking if the increasing affordability of such cameras will finally give them wider appeal.

The last 21 years have seen dramatic change in the photographic industry, not least in the area of professional photography. When once it would have been unthinkable to work with a system essentially derived from an entry-level consumer format, APS-C digital cameras have become ubiquitous. Meanwhile, the seemingly eternal discussion about which professional medium-format system was best – with Bronica users up against Rollei, Hasselblad, Mamiya, Fujifilm, Contax and Pentax – has come to an abrupt end, highlighted by the disappearance of some of these companies.

Photographing Star Trails explained

Your Complete Guide For Photographing Star Trails

By Trevor Williams

stars

Ever seen those pictures where the stars streak across the sky in a big arc? Or maybe the whole sky looked like it was spinning?

What you saw was star trails. The streaks were light left behind on the sensor or film from the star as it traveled across the sky in front of an open camera shutter. In fact, it only seems that way. What actually being recorded are stationary stars and the rotation of the earth that makes them spin. Kinda like you were standing on a vinyl record while it is playing. (yes, vinyl record, it is a form of ancient iPod).

For me, the images seem to have a certain magic or mystery about them. You must have heard a photographer talking about capturing that perfect moment in time. Well for capturing star trails you will need to capture the perfect hour or two in time. For such amazing looking images the technique to capture them is really quite simple. Keep reading for a complete set of instructions from start to finish.

here we go

Selecting Raw Material

The first thing is to select an object to work with. Any fruit or vegetable can work here, as long as it can be cut in a relatively clean way. Hard fruits and vegetables are the easiest to use. After I decided what kind of fruit or vegetable I’m going to use, I’m going to think about how this object is sliced the best way, some fruit is very soft and that doesn’t give you complete freedom on how to slice it.
